a previous traveler has taken photographs of this 'peasant' and then paid for her time in quid. the woman, who is not a peasant at all, but actually hard at work to collect money from tourists, has no clue to the coin's value. she pesters us to trade for u.s. dollars or moroccan dirham. we of course play dumb (-- we would never pay for these fake photographs and want to perpetuate the idea that they are unwanted). i adopt the appearance of having technical troubles with my camera and begin fussing with it at waist level. while the traditionally dressed model angrily mimes about the unfamiliar coins, i take multitudes of 'authentic' snapshots of her standing next to christopher.
